West Side

The old name of the Cupertino area: a 19th-century settlement at the crossroads of Stevens Creek Road and the Saratoga-Sunnyvale road.

Before it was Cupertino, the farming district around the Crossroads was known as West Side and was part of Fremont Township. In 1922 Sawyer’s county history still mentions a packing company and drier “at West Side”, near the town of Cupertino.

The name lives on in history as the West Side Union High School District, founded in 1923, which became today’s Fremont Union High School District.
