Fremont Older Preserve

A 739-acre open space preserve above Cupertino, named for a San Francisco newspaper editor.

Fremont Older and his wife Cora bought the land in 1912 and built their house, Woodhills, in 1914. The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District has owned the land since 1975. The preserve has 14.7 miles of trails, most open to horses and bicycles.

Hunters Point, a bald 900-foot hilltop, looks out over the South Bay. Maisie’s Peak, the highest point, is named for Maisie Garrod, who bought land here with her brother in 1910; their hayfields and fruit trees still show the land’s farming past.
