Woodhills

Fremont and Cora Older’s 1914 house in the hills, saved and restored inside Fremont Older Preserve.

The Olders built Woodhills in 1914 in a style that mixes the shingle style with the early modern movement, and lived there until their deaths. The house was condemned when the open space district bought the land; publisher Mort Levine leased it for $1 a year in 1979 and spent twelve years restoring it. It is on the National Register and opens for docent-led tours each spring.
