John T. Doyle

The San Francisco lawyer and historian whose Cupertino Wine Co. gave the town its name.

In the 1880s John T. Doyle founded the Cupertino Wine Co., taking the name the Spanish had given the creek. When the West Side post office needed a new name in 1904, Cupertino was chosen, and it was applied to the Crossroads and the Home Union Store as well. Doyle is listed among the planters of the Cupertino District’s vineyards of the 1880s.
