Montebello Ridge

The ridge above Cupertino, also called Black Mountain, where the Picchettis and others planted vineyards from the 1870s.

The Picchetti brothers named the ridge Monte Bello, beautiful mountain, when they settled there in 1877, and it became one of Santa Clara County’s important vineyard areas. Stevens Creek begins on the western flank of Black Mountain, in Monte Bello Open Space Preserve.

Montebello Road climbs from Stevens Canyon Road past Picchetti Ranch.
